Paste a newsletter, blog post, or script and set words per minute. This calculator is about duration, not about fitting a character cap.
Word splitting and the clock math run in the browser. The draft is not uploaded.
How to use
- Paste the full draft.
- Set words per minute, default 200.
- Read estimated time plus faster and slower ranges.
How it works
Words split on whitespace. Minutes equal word count divided by the pace you set. Fast assumes about 250 words per minute relative to that pace, slow about 150.
Use a lower pace for technical docs, a higher one for light blog prose. Sub-minute drafts show as under one minute.
Examples
Newsletter
A 600-word issue at 200 words per minute lands near three minutes, useful for a subject-line promise.
Long read
A 2,400-word feature at 180 words per minute is about thirteen minutes for a denser audience.
FAQ
What is the default pace?
200 words per minute, a common silent-reading average. Change it to match your audience.
Does punctuation count as words?
Words are tokens split on whitespace. A hyphenated term without spaces counts as one word.
Can I model skimming?
Raise words per minute. The fast range already sits above your chosen pace.
Is the article uploaded?
No. Timing stays in this browser tab.
