How it works
The discount amount is the percent of the original price. Tax, if any, is taken on the already reduced price, which matches many retail checkouts.
A 100 percent discount yields a zero base before tax. Negative prices are not a special case beyond the arithmetic.

Apparel sale
A 80 jacket at 25 percent off is 20 off and 60 before tax.
Taxed checkout
That 60 with 10 percent tax becomes 66 at the register after the markdown.

Is tax applied before or after the discount?
After. Tax uses the reduced price.
Can I model a coupon amount instead of a percent?
This page takes a percent markdown. Convert a fixed coupon to a percent first, or subtract it yourself.
Does this handle stacked discounts?
It applies one percent. Chain the result as a new original price if you have a second markdown.
Are prices uploaded?
